DDGC Public Humanities Webinar

DDGC Public Humanities Webinar 2020
Date: May 18, 2020, 10:00 – 11:00 am PDT

Public-facing humanities work is as urgent now as it ever was. Op-eds, feature articles, interviews, public lectures, and many more modes of engaging with the public are key venues to (re)articulate how essential our teaching, research, and advocacy are for the public good. To facilitate long-term commitment to public-facing scholarship by German Studies professionals, DDGC is hosting its inaugural Public-Facing Scholarship Webinar.

The inaugural webinar will be a collaborative, collective effort. A few people will share their experience of pitching work to public-facing outlets. Others can share other relevant experience. We will collectively brainstorm ideas to pitch and will develop a rough plan of action for each participant interested in pursuing this work. Finally, we will set up a system in which we develop small groups of about three people, who will serve as workshopping and support network for one another in pursuing and seeing their projects completed.

Who is a great participants for this project? Anyone who:
  1. is interested in extending their language/culture studies advocacy, teaching, and research into public-facing writing/scholarship
  2. has done public-facing work and is willing to share their experience and/or develop collaborative future public-facing humanities projects

If you are interested in participating, please send a quick email expressing interest (nothing formal) to Ervin Malakaj (ervin.malakaj@ubc.ca) and Per Urlaub (purlaub@middlebury.edu) by April 30, 2020.
